This Apple Cider Donut Cake is a moist and flavorful treat that perfectly captures the essence of fall. With a sweet and spiced batter, topped with a cinnamon-sugar coating and a buttery glaze, it’s like biting into a warm apple cider donut in cake form!
Ingredients
Scale
For the Cake:
- 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix or spice cake mix (Betty Crocker Yellow Super Moist or Duncan Hines Spice Cake Mix)
- 1 cup apple cider (NOT apple juice or apple cider vinegar)
- ½ cup applesauce (cinnamon applesauce works best)
- 3 large eggs (room temperature)
- ¼ tsp cinnamon (add more if desired)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 2 tbsp cinnamon (adjust based on preference)
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup melted butter
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the dry cake mix, apple cider, applesauce, and eggs together. Add in the cinnamon (¼ tsp), brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
-
Prepare the Bundt Pan:
- Grease and flour a bundt pan (Baker’s Joy works great, as it has both grease and flour). Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan.
-
Bake:
- Place the bundt pan on the center rack and bake for 40-45 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake; if it comes out clean, the cake is ready.
-
Cool the Cake:
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack for about 20 minutes.
-
Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- In a separate bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
-
Top the Cake:
- Once the cake has cooled, brush the entire surface with melted butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the cake until fully coated.
-
Serve and Enjoy:
- Slice the cake and enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of apple cider and cinnamon!
Notes
- For a stronger fall flavor, use Duncan Hines Spice Cake Mix instead of yellow cake mix.
- If you prefer a more intense cinnamon flavor, increase the amount of cinnamon in the batter and topping.
