Description

A rustic yet elegant twist on classic apple pie, this Apple Pie Tart features a buttery crust, tender spiced apples, and a caramelized sugar topping. It’s a cozy dessert that’s simple enough for weeknights and beautiful enough for holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons ice water
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place a rack in the center.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter and blend until coarse crumbs form. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  3. Roll dough and press into tart pan. Trim edges and chill for 15 minutes.
  4. Toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Arrange in the crust.
  5. Brush crust edges with egg wash. Sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and apples are tender.
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Optional: brush with apricot jam for shine.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for deeper flavor.
  • Chill dough before baking to keep crust crisp.
  • Optional glaze adds bakery-style shine.
