- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for topping
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 4 tablespoons ice water
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place a rack in the center.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter and blend until coarse crumbs form. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
- Roll dough and press into tart pan. Trim edges and chill for 15 minutes.
- Toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Arrange in the crust.
- Brush crust edges with egg wash. Sprinkle with remaining sugar.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and apples are tender.
- Cool slightly before serving. Optional: brush with apricot jam for shine.
