Description

This classic Beef Sloppy Joes recipe is the ultimate comfort food — juicy, saucy ground beef packed with sweet and tangy flavors, served on toasted buns for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 4 sandwich buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Warm a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Push beef to one side and sauté diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper until soft.
  4. Stir vegetables into beef. Add ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and chili powder if using.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Toast your buns lightly in a skillet or toaster.
  7. Spoon beef mixture generously onto each bun and serve warm.

Notes

  • Toast buns to prevent sogginess and add extra texture.
  • Let the mixture simmer to enhance flavor depth.
  • Customize spice level with hot sauce or jalapeños.
  • Great for make-ahead meals or freezer-friendly storage.
