Description

This Blackberry Crumble is a delicious, warm dessert made with juicy blackberries and topped with a buttery, cinnamon crumble. It’s a comforting treat that’s perfect on its own or paired with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or creme anglaise!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Blackberry Filling:

  • 24 ounces fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 dashes salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Spray a 3-quart baking dish with pan spray.
  • In a medium bowl, toss the blackberries with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, make the crumble topping by whisking together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Cut in the softened butter with a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the blackberry mixture.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is lightly toasted and the filling is bubbling.
  • Let the crumble cool for 5-10 minutes to allow the liquid to thicken slightly before serving.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or creme anglaise if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the crumble topping or mixing in a handful of oats for a heartier texture.
  • The crumble can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking.
