This easy and delicious Blueberry Danish features a flaky puff pastry filled with a creamy mixture of cream cheese and sugar, topped with sweet blueberry preserves or fresh blueberries. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup blueberry preserves or fresh blueberries
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare Puff Pastry:
    • Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangles (or desired size).
  • Make the Cream Cheese Filling:
    • In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Assemble the Danish:
    • Place a dollop of cream cheese filling in the center of each rectangle.
    • Add a spoonful of blueberry preserves or a few fresh blueberries on top of the filling.
  • Shape the Pastry:
    • Fold the corners of each rectangle toward the center, overlapping slightly, to create a pocket. Press gently to seal.
  • Apply Egg Wash:
    • Beat the egg and milk together. Brush this mixture lightly over the pastry to give it a golden, glossy finish.
  • Bake:
    • Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
    • Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Let the pastries cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Filling Variations: You can substitute the blueberry preserves with other fruit preserves, like raspberry or strawberry, for a different flavor.
  • Egg Wash: If you prefer a dairy-free version, you can use a non-dairy milk like almond milk for the egg wash.
  • Fresh vs. Preserves: Fresh blueberries are great if you prefer a burst of fruit in every bite, while preserves give the filling a smoother consistency.
