Butter Cookies are classic, melt-in-your-mouth treats made with simple ingredients like butter, sugar, and flour. They are crisp on the edges, tender inside, and perfect for enjoying with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup (130g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip, or roll into small balls for simple cookies.
  6. Pipe or shape cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a hint of lemon zest or almond extract to the dough.
  • If the dough is too soft to pipe, refrigerate it for 15–20 minutes.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
