Soft and chewy on the inside, with a crunchy powdered sugar coating on the outside, these cookies are a crowd-pleaser. The red and green food coloring adds a touch of holiday cheer, making them a beautiful addition to any Christmas celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Red and green food coloring gel (optional)
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and cake mix until well combined.
  • (Optional) Divide the dough into two equal portions and place each portion in a small bowl. Add red food coloring to one bowl and green food coloring to the other. Stir each until the colors are fully incorporated into the dough.
  • Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle and ensure fluffier cookies.
  • Use a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop to measure out the dough. Roll each dough ball in powdered sugar and place on the prepared baking sheet. *If the dough is too sticky, add about one tablespoon of flour to the dough and mix it in.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes at 375°F (190°C), until the cookies are lightly golden around the edges.
  • Allow the cookies to cool for a minute or two on the baking sheet before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Notes

  • The optional food coloring gives the cookies a festive red and green look, perfect for holiday gatherings. Feel free to skip this step for a more classic look.
  • If the dough is too sticky after mixing, adding a tablespoon of flour can help make it more manageable.
  • Refrigerating the dough before baking will help the cookies maintain their shape and give them a chewy texture.
