Description

This creamy Cheat’s Taramasalata delivers all the smoky, tangy flavor of the traditional Greek dip in a fraction of the time. Made with cod roe, bread, garlic, and lemon, it’s a quick and easy spread perfect for dipping or spreading.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 100 grams smoked cod roe
  • 2 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 lemon, juiced and zested
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • Black olives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Briefly soak bread slices in water, then squeeze out excess liquid.
  2. In a food processor, combine smoked cod roe, garlic, lemon juice and zest, and red onion (if using).
  3. With the processor running, slowly drizzle in olive oil until mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Add Greek yogurt and pulse to combine.
  5. Transfer to a serving bowl and chill for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Garnish with black olives and a drizzle of olive oil before serving.

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients for best texture and emulsification.
  • Taste and adjust with more lemon or yogurt if too salty.
  • Serve with pita bread, raw veggies, or as a sandwich spread.
