These Chocolate-Filled Hand Pies are the perfect handheld dessert with a golden, flaky crust and a gooey chocolate filling. Whether you use semi-sweet or milk chocolate, they’re irresistibly delicious, and the option to top them with extra melted chocolate makes them even more indulgent!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of pre-made pie crusts (or homemade pie dough)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional: additional chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Pie Crusts: Roll out your pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Cut them into circles or rectangles, depending on your desired hand pie shape. Use a cookie cutter or knife for uniform shapes.
  • Make the Chocolate Filling: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips with the heavy cream, stirring until smooth and creamy. Allow the mixture to cool slightly so it thickens.
  • Assemble the Hand Pies: Spoon a small amount of the chocolate mixture onto the center of half the pie crust shapes, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Seal the Pies: Place the remaining pie crust shapes on top of the chocolate-filled ones, pressing the edges together gently. Use the tines of a fork to seal the edges and create a decorative border.
  • Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of the hand pies lightly with the egg wash.
  • Bake: Place the pies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
  • Serve: Let the hand pies cool for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, sprinkle some chocolate chips on top while they are still warm for a melty finish.

Notes

  • You can substitute the chocolate chips with Nutella or another chocolate spread for a different flavor.
  • These hand pies are best enjoyed warm, but they can be stored in an airtight container for a few days and reheated in the oven for a crispy finish.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture to enhance the flavor!
