Description

A comforting bowl of tender shredded chicken and soft dumplings simmered in rich savory broth, inspired by the classic Cracker Barrel style homestyle dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless chicken breasts
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley


Instructions

  1. Add chicken broth and chicken to a large pot and bring to a simmer.
  2. Cook chicken about 20 minutes until tender.
  3. Remove chicken and shred it.
  4. Return shredded chicken to the pot and add butter.
  5. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and pepper to form dumpling dough.
  6. Roll dough thin and cut into strips.
  7. Drop dumplings into simmering broth and cook 10 to 12 minutes until tender.
  8. Serve hot topped with parsley.

  • Keep broth at a gentle simmer while cooking dumplings.
