These Crispy Funnel Cake Sticks are the perfect treat for a carnival-inspired snack! With a crispy, golden exterior and a soft, fluffy interior, these sticks are dusted with powdered sugar for the ultimate indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Prepare the batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and add the milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until smooth.
  • Heat the oil:
In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat. You can test the oil’s temperature by dropping a small bit of batter into the oil; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  • Form the sticks:
Use a spoon or a funnel to carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Shape the batter into long sticks, about 4-5 inches long, using the back of the spoon or your fingers.
  • Fry the funnel cake sticks:
Fry the funnel cake sticks in batches, turning them occasionally until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove the sticks and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Serve:
Dust the crispy funnel cake sticks with powdered sugar while they are still warm. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter.
  • If you prefer a less oily result, you can bake the sticks in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
  • These funnel cake sticks are best served immediately after frying, as they are crispest when fresh.
