Description

Crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside — these bite-sized potato cheese balls are the ultimate comfort snack or party appetizer.

Ingredients

  • Mashed Potatoes: 2 cups
  • Mozzarella Cheese: 1 cup, shredded
  • Cheddar Cheese: ½ cup, shredded
  • All-Purpose Flour: ¼ cup
  • Cornstarch: 2 tablespoons
  • Chili Flakes: ½ teaspoon (optional)
  • Garlic Powder: ½ teaspoon
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Black Pepper: ¼ teaspoon
  • Breadcrumbs: 1 cup
  • Milk: ¼ cup
  • Oil for Frying: Enough to deep or shallow fry

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Begin heating your oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat while you prep the balls.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes, shredded cheeses, flour, garlic powder, chili flakes, salt, pepper, and just enough milk to bind everything together.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Place breadcrumbs in a shallow dish and cornstarch in another. Shape the potato mix into balls, roll in cornstarch, dip in a bit of milk, then roll in breadcrumbs.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Place all shaped and coated balls on a tray. Chill in the fridge for 15–20 minutes to firm up.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Gently drop balls into hot oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes, turning for even color.
  6. Finishing Touches: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt if desired.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces — think garlic mayo, ketchup, or a spicy aioli.

Notes

  • Chill the balls before frying to maintain shape.
  • Use cold mashed potatoes for better structure.
  • Test oil temperature before frying with a breadcrumb.
  • Try stuffing with a small cheese cube for extra gooey centers.
