This easy and delicious crockpot bread recipe allows you to bake a soft and flavorful loaf without needing to heat up your oven. With a few simple ingredients and minimal hands-on time, you can enjoy fresh homemade bread right from your slow cooker.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (around 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional toppings: herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme), seeds (e.g., sunflower, sesame), or cheese (e.g., shredded cheddar or parmesan

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Stir to ensure the yeast and salt are evenly distributed.
  • Add the Wet Ingredients:
Gradually add the warm water and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until the dough starts to form. Use your hands to work the dough into a cohesive ball. If needed, add small amounts of water to adjust the consistency.
  • Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle with a little more flour, but avoid over-flouring to prevent dense bread.
  • Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a clean bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Shape the Dough:
Punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf that fits comfortably inside your crockpot.
  • Grease the Crockpot:
Lightly grease the crockpot with olive oil or cooking spray. Place the dough inside, ensuring it fits snugly, but not overflowing.
  • Cook the Bread:
Set the slow cooker to high and cook for 2-3 hours. The bread is done when it’s golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped. If the bread is browning too quickly, cover the top with foil.
  • Cool and Serve:
Carefully remove the bread from the crockpot and allow it to cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Slice and serve with butter, cheese, or your favorite spreads.

Notes

  • Experiment with additional herbs, seeds, or cheese to add flavor to the bread.
  • Cooking time may vary based on the model of your crockpot, so check for doneness and adjust as needed.
  • This bread is perfect for pairing with soups, salads, or simply as a snack with butter.
