Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold cubed butter and rub it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
- Stir in vanilla extract and gradually add milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut into round shapes using a cutter and place them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool completely on a rack to crisp up before serving.
Notes
- Keep the butter cold for the best crumbly texture.
- Do not overwork the dough to prevent toughness.
- Allow full cooling for maximum crispness.
- Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
