For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for added texture)
For the Chocolate Marble Swirl:
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup warm water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the ricotta cheese and milk to the mixture and mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
- In a small bowl, prepare the chocolate swirl by mixing cocoa powder, sugar, and warm water until smooth.
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared cake pan. Add spoonfuls of the chocolate mixture over the batter and swirl it gently with a knife or skewer to create the marble effect.
- Pour the remaining cake batter over the chocolate swirl and swirl again to blend the two layers. (Optional: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top for extra chocolatey goodness.)
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve and enjoy your delicious, marble-swirl cake!
Notes
- If you prefer a richer chocolate flavor, you can add more cocoa powder or chocolate chips.
- This cake pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar on top.
- Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
