Description

These Feather Dumplings are light, fluffy, and the perfect addition to your Chicken and Dumplings soup. Easy to make and packed with flavor, they bring a comforting texture to the dish that will satisfy your taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2/3 cup milk (add more if needed for consistency)
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Add the cold cubed butter into the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and beaten egg.
  • Gradually add the milk and egg mixture to the flour and butter mixture, stirring gently until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Bring your chicken soup or broth to a simmer.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering broth, covering the pot with a lid.
  • Let the dumplings cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and cooked through.
  • Serve the dumplings along with the chicken soup and enjoy!

Notes

  • If the dough is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach the desired consistency.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs like thyme to the dough.
  • Make sure not to lift the lid while the dumplings are cooking, as they need to steam and rise properly.
