Ingredients
Scale
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
2/3 cup milk (add more if needed for consistency)
1 egg, beaten
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
Add the cold cubed butter into the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and beaten egg.
Gradually add the milk and egg mixture to the flour and butter mixture, stirring gently until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
Bring your chicken soup or broth to a simmer.
Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering broth, covering the pot with a lid.
Let the dumplings cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and cooked through.
Serve the dumplings along with the chicken soup and enjoy!
Notes
If the dough is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach the desired consistency.
For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs like thyme to the dough.
Make sure not to lift the lid while the dumplings are cooking, as they need to steam and rise properly.
