Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2/3 cup milk (add more if needed for consistency)
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the cold cubed butter into the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and beaten egg.
- Gradually add the milk and egg mixture to the flour and butter mixture, stirring gently until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
- Bring your chicken soup or broth to a simmer.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering broth, covering the pot with a lid.
- Let the dumplings cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and cooked through.
- Serve the dumplings along with the chicken soup and enjoy!
Notes
- If the dough is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach the desired consistency.
- For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs like thyme to the dough.
- Make sure not to lift the lid while the dumplings are cooking, as they need to steam and rise properly.
