Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon rose water or lavender extract (optional, for floral essence)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For Decoration:

  • Edible flowers (e.g., pansies, violas, or marigolds), rinsed and dried
  • 1/4 cup egg white, lightly beaten
  • Granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cookie Dough:
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and rose water or lavender extract (if using), and mix until well combined.
  • Add the Dry Ingredients:
Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough in half, wrap each portion in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll and Cut:
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.
  • Decorate with Edible Flowers:
Brush the tops of the cookies lightly with egg white. Gently press an edible flower onto each cookie, then brush the flower with more egg white to adhere. Sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar for a delicate shimmer.
  • Bake:
Bake the cookies for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges just begin to turn golden. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
Arrange the cookies on a platter and admire your floral masterpieces! Serve with tea or as a sweet treat for guests.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger floral flavor, feel free to increase the amount of rose water or lavender extract.
  • Be sure to use only edible flowers that are safe for consumption. Always check that they are pesticide-free.
