Description

This hearty French Onion Ground Beef and Rice Casserole is a flavorful, one-dish comfort meal. Made with savory French onion soup, beef consommé, and tender rice, it’s a crowd-pleaser perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) lean ground beef
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp garlic salt (to taste)
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) beef consommé
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) French onion soup
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) water
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 3/4 cup (170g) butter, sliced

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Cook Ground Beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with garlic salt until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles.
  • Assemble Casserole:
Spread the uncooked rice evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Layer the cooked ground beef on top of the rice.
  • Add Liquids:
Pour in the beef consommé, French onion soup, and water over the beef and rice. Gently stir to combine.
  • Add Butter:
Arrange the sliced butter evenly on top of the casserole mixture.
  • Bake Covered:
Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Bake Uncovered:
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the rice is tender.
  • Serve:
Fluff the casserole with a fork before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For added richness, sprinkle grated cheese, such as cheddar or Gruyère, over the casserole during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • Use low-sodium soups if you prefer less salt.
