Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef or beef-pork mix
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Garlic Bread

  • 1 garlic bread loaf
  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Sandwich Toppings

  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce, warmed
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Seasonings

  • Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, chopped parsley, egg, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix gently until just combined. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter.
  2. Cook the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides to seal in juices. Then reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and cook for about 10 minutes until meatballs are cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Bread: Slice the garlic bread loaf horizontally. Spread a mixture of softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley evenly over the cut surfaces. Toast the bread in a preheated oven at 375°F for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon warm marinara sauce over the toasted garlic bread halves. Layer cooked meatballs on top, then sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Close the sandwiches, slice as desired, and serve hot to savor every garlicky, cheesy bite.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing the meatball mixture to keep meatballs tender.
  • Brown the meatballs first for flavor, then finish cooking covered to retain juiciness.
  • Use fresh garlic and softened butter for the best garlic bread flavor.
  • Choose homemade or high-quality marinara sauce for optimal taste.
  • Use the oven broiler briefly to melt cheese evenly and create a bubbly topping.
