Ingredients

  • 4 cod fillets (about 150g / 5 oz each)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat cod fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Place the cod fillets in the skillet and sear for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add butter and garlic. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add lemon juice and stir to combine.
  6. Return cod to the skillet and spoon the garlic butter sauce over the fillets.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges.

  • Use fresh cod fillets for the best texture and flavor.
  • This recipe works with other white fish like haddock or tilapia.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables, rice, or a light salad.
