Description

These savory and elegant goat cheese and walnut tarts make for a perfect appetizer or light snack. The flaky puff pastry is filled with creamy goat cheese, topped with crunchy walnuts, and finished with a touch of honey and fresh thyme for added flavor.

Ingredients

  • Frozen puff pastry: 1 sheet, thawed
  • Goat cheese: 1 cup
  • Salt and pepper: To taste
  • Herbs de Provence: 1.5 teaspoons
  • California walnuts: ½ cup, chopped
  • Honey: To drizzle
  • Egg: 1, for egg wash
  • Fresh thyme sprigs: For garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Prepare puff pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut eight 5-inch circles from the dough. Using a knife, score a ¼-inch-wide border around each circle to create a raised edge.
  • Fill with goat cheese: Place about 2 tablespoons of goat cheese in the center of each pastry circle. Season with salt and pepper, then sprinkle evenly with Herbs de Provence.
  • Add walnuts and honey: Place chopped walnuts on top of the goat cheese. Drizzle honey over the walnuts.
  • Make egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 teaspoon of warm water to create an egg wash.
  • Brush egg wash: Use a pastry brush to apply the egg wash to the outer border of each pastry circle.
  • Bake: Bake the tarts for 20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  • Serve: Remove from the oven and top with fresh thyme sprigs. Drizzle with additional honey if desired before serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a more savory flavor, you can substitute honey with balsamic glaze or a drizzle of olive oil.
  • For a vegetarian option, you can omit the egg wash for a dairy-free version or use a plant-based cheese.
  • These tarts can be served warm or at room temperature.
