This hearty and savory dish combines ground beef with tender, caramelized cabbage, infused with warm spices like cumin and paprika. It’s a simple, one-pan meal that’s full of flavor and perfect for a quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ head of green cabbage (shredded)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, for a tangy kick)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until it becomes soft and translucent.
  • Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, mixing well to evenly coat the meat with the spices.
  • Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and pour in the beef broth. Stir everything together, ensuring the cabbage is well-distributed with the beef mixture.
  • Cover the skillet and let the mixture cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cabbage should become tender and slightly caramelized.
  • Once the cabbage is cooked to your liking, add the soy sauce (if using) and apple cider vinegar (if using). Stir to combine, then taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
  • Serve hot as a savory, one-pan meal, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a lighter dish, you can reduce the amount of ground beef and add more cabbage.
  • If you want a more intense flavor, feel free to use beef broth instead of water.
  • This dish pairs well with rice or a side of crusty bread.
