Description

These crispy, golden heart-shaped churros are the perfect sweet treat for any occasion! Coated in cinnamon-sugar and served with chocolate or caramel sauce, they’re a fun and festive twist on a classic favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Churros:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For Coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For Dipping (Optional):

  • Chocolate sauce
  • Caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil.
    • Reduce the heat to low and add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
    • Remove from heat and let the dough cool for 5-10 minutes.
    • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  • Shape the Churros:
    • Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
    • On parchment paper, pipe the dough into heart shapes. Freeze the piped hearts for 20-30 minutes to hold their shape during frying.
  • Fry the Churros:
    • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
    • Gently lift the frozen churro hearts from the parchment paper and carefully place them into the hot oil.
    • Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Coat the Churros:
    • In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
    • While the churros are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  • Serve:
    • Arrange the churro hearts on a platter and serve with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce on the side for an extra touch of sweetness.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a Ziploc bag with the tip cut off to pipe the dough into heart shapes.
  • To keep churros crispy, make sure they’re drained well on paper towels after frying.
