A flavorful and tangy homemade version of A1 steak sauce, made with a blend of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, and spices. Perfect for dipping steaks, burgers, and grilled vegetables, this sauce brings a delicious balance of sweetness, acidity, and umami to your dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) ketchup
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Mix well.
  • Add seasonings: Stir in the lemon juice, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and smoked paprika (if using).
  • Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Cool and store: Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely. Transfer to an airtight container or bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Serve: Use as a dipping sauce or to enhance the flavor of steaks, burgers, or grilled vegetables.

Notes

  • The smoked paprika adds a nice depth to the flavor but can be omitted if you prefer a more classic taste.
  • This sauce can be used in various ways, not just for steaks—try it on roasted vegetables or grilled chicken!
