Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix the warm water with yeast and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it’s nice and frothy.
  • Gradually stir in the salt and flour, one cup at a time, until a dough starts to form.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Put the dough in a greased bowl, cover it up, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, which should take around an hour.
  • Once it’s risen, punch it down gently and shape it into a loaf. Place it into a greased loaf pan.
  • Cover once more and let it rise until doubled again, about 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Let it cool before slicing into that delicious loaf you just created!

Notes

  • To make sure the yeast is active, use water that’s between 100-110°F (37-43°C) for the best results.
  • For a softer crust, you can brush the top of the loaf with melted butter right after baking.
