These crispy, spicy Tofu Tacos are loaded with flavor and texture. Seasoned tofu is seared or baked to golden perfection, then tucked into warm tortillas with slaw, creamy sauce, and fresh toppings. A quick, plant-based meal that everyone will love.
Ingredients
- Firm or Extra-Firm Tofu: 14 oz (400g), drained and pressed
- Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
- Lime Juice: 1 tablespoon
- Soy Sauce or Tamari: 1 tablespoon
- Smoked Paprika: 1 teaspoon
- Ground Cumin: ½ teaspoon
- Chili or Chipotle Powder: ¼ teaspoon (to taste)
- Garlic: 1 clove, minced
- Salt & Pepper: To taste
- Small Tortillas: 8, corn or flour
- Slaw Mix or Shredded Cabbage: 1 cup
- Red Onion: ½, thinly sliced
- Fresh Cilantro: Chopped, to garnish
- Salsa or Pico de Gallo: For topping
- Lime Wedges: For serving
- Avocado or Guacamole: Optional
- Vegan Sour Cream or Yogurt (optional): ¼ cup
- Lime Juice (for sauce): 1 tablespoon
- Hot Sauce or Chipotle in Adobo (optional): 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Press Tofu: Remove excess moisture using a tofu press or weights for 15–30 minutes. Cut into cubes or strips.
- Make Marinade: Whisk olive oil, lime juice, soy sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, garlic, salt, and pepper. Add tofu and marinate at least 15 minutes.
- Cook Tofu: Pan-sear or bake at 425°F (220°C) until golden and crisp, about 20–25 minutes.
- Warm Tortillas: Heat in a skillet or over an open flame until soft and slightly charred.
- Mix Toppings: Toss cabbage, red onion, and cilantro. Whisk sauce ingredients if using.
- Assemble: Fill tortillas with tofu, slaw, sauce, salsa, and avocado. Garnish with cilantro and lime juice.
- Serve: Enjoy immediately while warm and crispy.
