Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (255g)
- 1¼ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (150g)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (113g)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest (about 2 oranges)
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup fresh orange juice (120ml)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the sugar, butter, and orange zest together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and beat until well combined.
- With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture, alternating with the orange juice, until fully combined. Stop to scrape down the bowl as needed.
- Scoop the dough into 1-tablespoon balls and place onto the prepared cookie sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake one sheet at a time for 10 minutes, or until the centers appear dry and feel firm to the touch.
- Let cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For extra orange flavor, add a little more zest or a few drops of orange extract.
- Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Optional: drizzle with a simple orange glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice.
- Make sure butter is softened for best texture and creaming.
