Cool off with this refreshing Iced Vanilla Chai Latte, a perfect blend of bold black tea, warming spices, and creamy milk. Sweetened with honey and infused with vanilla, it’s a delightful homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 black tea bags (preferably a strong blend like Assam or Darjeeling)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped, or 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp honey (or to taste)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based, such as almond or oat milk)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: a sprinkle of cinnamon, vanilla pods, or star anise

Instructions

  • Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add the tea bags, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes to let the spices infuse.
  • Remove from the heat. If using a vanilla bean, scrape the seeds into the tea and drop in the pod. Stir in the honey, adjusting the sweetness to taste.
  • Remove the tea bags and vanilla pod, then let the chai mixture cool to room temperature. To cool it faster, place the pan in a bowl of ice water.
  • Froth the milk using a milk frother or by shaking it in a sealed jar. Alternatively, warm the milk slightly and whisk briskly to create froth.
  • Fill a large glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled chai into the glass, filling about two-thirds full. Stir in the vanilla extract if using instead of the bean. Slowly pour the frothed milk on top, letting it swirl into the chai.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon, vanilla pod pieces, or star anise for a beautiful presentation. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the spice levels according to your taste preferences.
  • For an extra indulgent version, substitute a portion of the milk with cream.
  • To make it vegan, use plant-based milk and maple syrup or agave as a sweetener.
