Description

A vibrant, tart hibiscus tea known as Karkadeh. This refreshing drink is rich in color and flavor, served hot or cold, and naturally caffeine-free.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup dried hibiscus petals
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or honey (to taste)
  • Optional: cinnamon stick, cloves, orange peel, fresh mint

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a small pot or kettle.
  2. In a heatproof pitcher or teapot, add dried hibiscus petals.
  3. Pour the boiling water over the petals and let steep for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Stir in sugar or honey while the tea is hot.
  5. Add any optional spices or citrus peels if desired and steep 2–3 minutes more.
  6. Strain into cups and serve hot, or chill and pour over ice for a cold version.

Notes

  • Steep longer for a deeper color and stronger flavor.
  • Add sweetener while hot for best dissolution.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
