Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For the Gummy Glaze:
    • 1 cup gummy candies (assorted flavors)
    • 2 tbsp water
    • ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or a round cookie cutter with a smaller cutter for the center.
  • Place cut-out donuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on a wire rack lined with paper towels.
  • For the gummy glaze, melt the gummy candies with water in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar until a glaze forms.
  • Dip each donut into the warm gummy glaze and let it set before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm (110°F) for the yeast to activate properly.
  • You can customize the gummy glaze by using different gummy candy flavors.
  • Donuts are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.
