Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Toppings:

  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni (or your favorite toppings)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Olive oil, for brushing

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Knead the Dough: Stir until the dough begins to come together, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Pizzas:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. Divide the Dough: Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions.
  3. Shape the Dough: Roll out each portion into a small oval or heart shape, about 6 inches wide, on a floured surface.
  4. Transfer to Baking Sheet: Transfer the heart-shaped dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Add the Toppings:

  1. Sauce and Cheese: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over each pizza base. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese, then add your desired toppings (such as sliced pepperoni).
  2. Brush the Crust: Brush the edges of the dough with a little olive oil for a golden, crispy crust.

Bake the Pizzas:

  1. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Serve:

  1. Cool and Serve: Remove the mini pizzas from the oven and let them cool for a minute before serving.
  2. Garnish: Optionally, top with fresh basil leaves for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Feel free to add any of your favorite toppings, such as mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, or even fresh tomato slices.
  • You can prepare the dough ahead of time and let it rise overnight in the fridge for a deeper flavor.
  • For a healthier twist, use whole wheat flour or a gluten-free flour blend.
