Ingredients

For the Onion Rings:

  • 2 large white onionsInstagram

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Oil, for fryingInstagram

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • Prepare the Onions:

    • Peel and slice the onions into thick rings, approximately ½-inch wide. Carefully separate the rings.

  • Stuff with Cheese:

    • Pair a larger onion ring with a smaller one nested inside, leaving a gap between them. Fill the gap with shredded mozzarella cheese, pressing gently to ensure it stays in place. Repeat with the remaining onion rings.tasty.co

    • Place the stuffed onion rings on a tray and freeze for about 30 minutes to firm up.

  • Coat the Onion Rings:

    • Set up a dredging station with three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour seasoned with salt and pepper, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.

    • Remove the onion rings from the freezer. Dredge each ring in the flour, ensuring it’s fully coated. Dip into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs. For an extra crispy layer, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating.

  • Fry the Onion Rings:

    • In a deep frying pan or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). The oil should be deep enough to fully submerge the onion rings.

    • Carefully place a few coated onion rings into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the onion rings and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels. Repeat with the remaining rings.

  • Prepare the Garlic Butter:

    • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the garlic powder and chopped fresh parsley. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, then remove from heat.

  • Serve:

    • Drizzle the warm garlic butter over the freshly fried onion rings. Serve immediately, optionally with marinara sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Cheese Options: For a different flavor, consider using cheese sticks or slices instead of shredded mozzarella.

  • Baking Alternative: For a healthier option, bake the coated onion rings in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.Recipes Tasteful

  • Air Fryer Method: Place the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crispy and golden.
