  • 500g (1.1 lb) minced beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (made with butter and milk)
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
  3. Add garlic, carrots, and minced beef. Cook until the beef is browned.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the beef stock, bring to a simmer, and cook for 15-20 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
