- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon orange zest, freshly grated
- 1/2 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tablespoons orange juice (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest, orange juice, milk, and vanilla.
- Gradually fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- For glaze, whisk powdered sugar with orange juice until smooth, then drizzle over cooled cake.
- Slice and serve with tea, coffee, or fresh fruit.
Notes
- Always zest oranges before juicing for ease.
- Don’t overmix the batter to keep the cake tender.
- Cool completely before glazing for best results.
