Description

This simple and comforting dessert, known as Hillbilly Pie or Poor Man’s Pie, is a quick-to-make treat that combines butter, sugar, self-rising flour, milk, and fruit pie filling for a delicious, golden-brown dessert that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 12 oz. can of your favorite fruit pie filling (apple, cherry, peach, etc.)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place the stick of butter in an 8×8 casserole dish and melt it in the oven as it heats up.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, sugar, and milk.
  • Once the butter has melted, remove the casserole dish from the oven and pour the flour mixture over the melted butter.
  • Pour the fruit pie filling evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes, or until the top crust is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any fruit pie filling of your choice (such as apple, peach, cherry, or blueberry).
  • This pie can be served warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
  • The crust forms naturally during baking, so no need to worry about mixing it into the batter.
