- 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 4 cups apples, peeled and diced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix 2 cups flour, granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup butter. Press this mixture into the bottom of your pan for the crust.
- In another bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and cornstarch.
- Spread the shortbread mixture evenly in the prepared pan and press down firmly.
- Spread the apple filling over the crust.
- In a third bowl, mix oats, remaining flour, brown sugar, and butter to make the crumble. Sprinkle this over the apples.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and the apples are tender.
- Let cool completely, then drizzle with salted caramel sauce.
- Slice into bars and serve as desired.
