- 500g (1.1 lb) minced beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cups mashed potatoes (made with butter and milk)
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add garlic, carrots, and minced beef. Cook until the beef is browned.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in the beef stock, bring to a simmer, and cook for 15-20 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
- Optional: Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
