Description

Juicy seared beef paired with smoky grilled bell peppers and bright caper berries, finished with fresh parsley for a simple yet elegant Mediterranean-inspired dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 grams) beef sirloin steak, trimmed
  • 2 large red bell peppers, sliced into thick strips
  • 1 large yellow bell pepper, sliced into thick strips
  • 1/3 cup caper berries, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat a heavy skillet or grill pan over medium high heat for about 5 minutes until very hot.
  2. Pat the beef dry and rub with 1 tablespoon olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper.
  3. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil to the hot pan and swirl to coat.
  4. Add the sliced bell peppers and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender and lightly charred. Remove and set aside.
  5. Place the beef in the same hot pan and sear for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium rare, or cook to your preferred doneness.
  6. Remove the beef and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  7. Arrange sliced beef on a plate with grilled peppers, scatter caper berries over the top, and finish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Let the beef come to room temperature before cooking for even searing.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure a proper crust.
  • Adjust salt carefully since caper berries add natural brininess.
