Description

This Shallot & Garlic Bread is a savory twist on classic garlic bread, featuring caramelized shallots and garlic blended with miso, chili flakes, and gooey cheese, finished with parsley and honey for a perfect balance of flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Italian bread (Pane de Casa or similar)
  • 3 shallots
  • 2 garlic bulbs
  • 125g butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp miso
  • 1/2 tbsp chili flakes
  • Cheese (mozzarella and parmesan mix)
  • Parsley, chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp honey
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180C / 350F. Chop tops off garlic bulbs and shallots, place on foil, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Wrap in foil and bake for 1 to 1 hr 15 min until golden and caramelized. Let cool.
  2. Squeeze roasted garlic and shallots into a bowl. Add softened butter, miso, chili flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Slice loaf of bread in half lengthwise. Spread mixture generously over both halves. Make slits in bread if desired for extra flavor infusion.
  4. Top with mozzarella and parmesan cheese blend. Grill or broil at 180C / 350F for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and top is golden brown (watch closely to avoid burning).
  5. Remove from oven, top with chopped parsley and drizzle with honey. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Caramelizing the shallots and garlic intensifies their sweetness and flavor.
  • Use your favorite cheese blend for different flavor profiles.
  • Keep an eye on the bread during broiling to prevent burning.
  • Add more chili flakes for extra heat if desired.
  • Best served fresh and warm, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven.
