Description

Sharbat is a traditional Middle Eastern and South Asian sweet cordial made from a fragrant blend of rosewater, lemon, and sugar, served over ice for the ultimate refreshing drink. Perfect for warm days or festive occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon rosewater
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • A pinch of saffron threads (optional)
  • Few sprigs of fresh mint
  • 3 cups chilled water (for serving)
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Remove from heat and add rosewater, lemon juice, saffron threads (if using), and mint. Let steep for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain the syrup into a clean jar or pitcher and let cool or refrigerate.
  4. To serve, add 3 tablespoons of syrup to a glass filled with ice and top with chilled water.
  5. Stir gently and garnish with lemon slices or mint leaves.

Notes

  • Use natural rosewater for the best flavor.
  • Add a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness and depth.
  • Try using sparkling water for a fizzy twist.
