Sharbat is a traditional Middle Eastern and South Asian sweet cordial made from a fragrant blend of rosewater, lemon, and sugar, served over ice for the ultimate refreshing drink. Perfect for warm days or festive occasions.

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water (for syrup)
- 1 tablespoon rosewater
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- A pinch of saffron threads (optional)
- Few sprigs of fresh mint
- 3 cups chilled water (for serving)
- Ice cubes, as needed
- Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Remove from heat and add rosewater, lemon juice, saffron threads (if using), and mint. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain the syrup into a clean jar or pitcher and let cool or refrigerate.
- To serve, add 3 tablespoons of syrup to a glass filled with ice and top with chilled water.
- Stir gently and garnish with lemon slices or mint leaves.
Notes
- Use natural rosewater for the best flavor.
- Add a pinch of salt to enhance the sweetness and depth.
