Description
A soft and fluffy sesame-coated pastry inspired by classic Turkish bakery flavors. This plain simit poğaça uses simple ingredients, is safe and easy for teens to make, and bakes into a golden, lightly crisp treat perfect for breakfast or snacking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240ml) warm milk
- 1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (7g) instant yeast
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add vegetable oil, salt, and flour gradually. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead lightly until smooth, then cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide dough into equal balls. Dip the tops into egg yolk, then into sesame seeds.
- Place on a lined baking tray and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20–22 minutes until golden.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Keep milk warm, not hot, so the yeast activates properly.
- Sesame seeds can be lightly toasted before coating for extra flavor.
- If dough feels sticky, add only a little extra flour at a time.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
