Description
Sobia is a traditional Middle Eastern drink made with rice, coconut, and milk. It’s creamy, mildly sweet, and perfectly refreshing when served ice-cold with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.
Ingredients

- ½ cup uncooked white rice
- ½ cup shredded coconut
- 4 cups cold water
- 2 cups whole milk or coconut milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)
- Cinnamon or coconut flakes, for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the rice in water overnight or for at least 6 hours. Drain and rinse.
- In a blender, combine soaked rice, shredded coconut, cold water, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cardamom. Blend on high until smooth.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1–2 hours.
- Stir before serving. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
- Pour into glasses, top with cinnamon or coconut flakes, and serve chilled with or without ice.
Notes
- Blend thoroughly for the creamiest texture.
- Strain twice for an ultra-smooth finish.
- Use coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
- Serve over crushed ice for extra refreshment.
