Description

A bold and refreshing frozen treat made from watermelon, lime, and a touch of chili. Sonoran Sunset Watermelon Ice is a sweet, spicy granita-style dessert perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest (for garnish)
  • Optional: extra chili powder or Tajín for topping

Instructions

  1. In a blender, purée the watermelon until smooth.
  2. Add lime juice, sugar, chili powder, and salt. Blend again until fully combined.
  3. Pour mixture into a shallow dish and spread evenly.
  4. Freeze for 3 hours, scraping with a fork every 30 to 45 minutes to form ice crystals.
  5. Once fully frozen and fluffy, scrape again before serving.
  6. Spoon into bowls and garnish with lime zest and extra chili or Tajín, if desired.
  7. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use very ripe watermelon for the sweetest flavor.
  • Chill your serving bowls to keep the ice from melting too fast.
  • Scrape regularly for that perfect granita texture.
  • Adjust spice level to your preference.
