For the Cake:
- 1 cup Coca Cola (real, not diet)
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 stick butter
- 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting:
- 1 stick butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 6 tablespoons cream or milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 3/4 cups confectioner’s sugar
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Cake
- In a saucepan, combine the Coca-Cola, oil, butter, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
- Pour the boiling Coca-Cola mixture over the dry ingredients and beat well until fully combined.
- Add the eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla extract to the mixture. Beat until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured 13×9 inch baking pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and cool for about 10 minutes before frosting.
Step 2: Make the Frosting
- In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa powder, and milk. Heat over medium until the butter melts, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and beat in the vanilla extract and powdered sugar until smooth and spreadable.
- While the cake is still warm, spread the frosting evenly over the top.

- For extra flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts on top of the frosting before it sets.
- This cake is best served slightly warm or at room temperature.
