Description

Tamer Hindi is a refreshing Middle Eastern tamarind drink known for its sweet and tangy flavor. Made from soaked tamarind pulp and sugar, it’s the perfect thirst-quencher for warm days or Ramadan evenings.

Ingredients

  • Tamarind Pulp: 200 grams, seedless
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Water: 5 cups
  • Baking Soda (optional): 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ice Cubes: for serving

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind pulp in 3 cups of water in a large bowl for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Transfer soaked tamarind and water into a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes to extract flavor.
  3. Mash the softened pulp with a spoon. Add the remaining 2 cups of water and sugar. Stir well and let cool.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher. Discard solids.
  5. Refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice and garnish as desired.

Notes

  • For extra aroma, add a splash of rose water or orange blossom water.
  • Double strain for a smoother texture.
  • Flavor deepens after chilling overnight.
