Description
Tamer Hindi is a refreshing Middle Eastern tamarind drink known for its sweet and tangy flavor. Made from soaked tamarind pulp and sugar, it’s the perfect thirst-quencher for warm days or Ramadan evenings.
Ingredients
- Tamarind Pulp: 200 grams, seedless
- Sugar: 1 cup
- Water: 5 cups
- Baking Soda (optional): 1/4 teaspoon
- Ice Cubes: for serving
Instructions
- Soak tamarind pulp in 3 cups of water in a large bowl for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Transfer soaked tamarind and water into a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes to extract flavor.
- Mash the softened pulp with a spoon. Add the remaining 2 cups of water and sugar. Stir well and let cool.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher. Discard solids.
- Refrigerate until chilled. Serve over ice and garnish as desired.
Notes
- For extra aroma, add a splash of rose water or orange blossom water.
- Double strain for a smoother texture.
- Flavor deepens after chilling overnight.
