For the Rolls:
- 1 cup milk, heated to 110°F
- 2 + 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons melted butter, divided
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2-4 tablespoons as needed
For the Filling:
- 6 tablespoons softened butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 4 oz softened cream cheese
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, egg, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, sugar, and salt. Whisk together.
- Gradually add the flour, stirring with a wooden spatula until the dough forms and is no longer sticky. If needed, add extra flour 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Knead the dough for about 3 minutes. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
-
Shape the Rolls:
- Lightly flour your work surface, turn out the dough, and roll it into a 17 x 10-inch rectangle.
- Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough. Starting from one long side, roll the dough into a log. Use dental floss to cut the log into 8 equal rolls.
-
Second Rise:
- Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, cover with plastic wrap, and let them rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Once risen, brush the tops with the remaining tablespoon of melted butter.
-
Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow the rolls to cool for about 15 minutes.
-
Prepare the Frosting:
- In a medium bowl, beat together the softened butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar until combined.
-
Serve:
- Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra gooey cinnamon rolls, add a little extra butter to the filling.
- You can prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate them overnight. Just let them rise for 30 minutes before baking the next morning.
- Feel free to make the frosting ahead of time and store it in the fridge until ready to serve.
