Description

These colorful and festive popcorn balls are a perfect Valentine’s Day treat! Coated in a sweet marshmallow mixture and decorated with heart-shaped candies, they’re a fun and easy snack for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (plain, unbuttered)
  • 1 package (10 oz) mini marshmallows
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)
  • Valentine’s Day candies (e.g., conversation hearts, M&Ms, heart sprinkles)

Instructions

Prepare the Popcorn:

  1. Pop the Popcorn: Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl, removing any unpopped kernels. Set aside.

Melt the Marshmallow Mixture:

  1. Melt the Butter: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add Marshmallows: Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Add Flavoring: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. If desired, add a few drops of red or pink food coloring and mix until evenly tinted.

Combine with Popcorn:

  1. Coat the Popcorn: Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Use a spatula or greased hands to gently mix until the popcorn is evenly coated.

Add Valentine Candy:

  1. Fold in Candies: Quickly fold in the Valentine’s Day candies while the mixture is still warm, distributing them throughout the popcorn.

Shape the Popcorn Balls:

  1. Form Balls: Lightly grease your hands with butter or non-stick spray. Scoop out portions of the coated popcorn mixture and form into balls about 3 inches in diameter.
  2. Place on Sheet: Place the shaped popcorn balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Set and Serve:

  1. Cool: Let the popcorn balls cool completely to firm up.
  2. Serve or Package: Wrap each ball in plastic wrap or place them in treat bags for gifting, or serve on a festive platter!

Notes

  • You can customize the candies to suit any holiday or occasion!
  • For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free butter and check that the marshmallows are vegan-friendly.
