- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 to 5 cups powdered sugar, sifted (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 tsp fine salt (adjust to taste)
- 4 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-4 Tbsp heavy cream or whole milk (adjust to desired consistency)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the salt, vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk. Beat on high speed until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
- Add more cream or milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.
Notes
- For a thicker frosting, use less heavy cream or milk.
- If the frosting is too sweet, you can reduce the amount of powdered sugar.
- This frosting can be tinted with food coloring or flavored with different extracts.
