Description

Vanilla Custard Cream Squares are soft, creamy, and beautifully layered with a tender base and a silky vanilla custard center. This comforting baked dessert slices cleanly into neat squares and tastes even better after chilling, making it perfect for gatherings or make-ahead treats.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter and mix until smooth and fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  5. Pour half of the flour mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly to form the base layer.
  6. Slowly pour the milk and egg mixture over the base layer.
  7. Carefully spoon the remaining flour mixture evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is lightly golden and the center is set but slightly soft.
  9. Cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into 9 squares.

  • Chill fully before slicing for clean edges.
  • Use room temperature eggs for smoother blending.
  • Do not overbake to keep the custard layer creamy.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
