Description

Juicy Italian sausage, sweet bell peppers, and caramelized onions come together in this easy, flavorful one-pan dish. Sausage, Peppers and Onions is a comforting classic perfect for sandwiches, pasta, or rice.

Ingredients

  • Italian Sausage (sweet or hot): 1 pound
  • Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Red Bell Pepper: 1, sliced
  • Green Bell Pepper: 1, sliced
  • Yellow Bell Pepper: 1, sliced
  • Large Onions (sliced): 2
  • Garlic (minced): 3 cloves
  • Crushed Tomatoes (optional): ½ cup
  • Dry White Wine or Chicken Broth: ¼ cup
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Black Pepper: ¼ teaspoon
  • Dried Oregano: ½ teaspoon
  • Red Pepper Flakes (optional): A pinch
  • Fresh Basil or Parsley: 2 tablespoons, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add sausages and brown on all sides for 7–8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: In the same pan, add onions and peppers. Sauté until softened and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Stir in garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Add wine or broth to deglaze the pan.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Return sausages to the pan. Add crushed tomatoes (if using), cover, and simmer 10–12 minutes until sausages are cooked through.
  6. Finishing Touches: Garnish with chopped basil or parsley.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve over pasta, rice, or in crusty rolls.

Notes

  • Use a mix of red, green, and yellow peppers for best flavor and color.
  • Deglaze with wine or broth to capture all the browned bits.
  • Slice sausages after browning for faster cooking.
  • Add a dash of balsamic for extra depth.
